Museum: Instruments and Apparatus
In 2015, a formal museum commissioned by BCS, opened at No.9 Fitzroy square with numerous artefacts and objects on display. The British Cardiovascular Society has a large historical collection of instruments and apparatus. At the nucleus of the museum is Arthur Hollman’s own personal collection of instruments, photographs and documents. Early ECG recorders, surgical instruments, stethoscopes and pacemakers illustrate major technical developments. Highlights include the handmade toy train used by Augustus Waller to record the first human electrocardiogram.
